Juneteenth
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is celebrated on June 19th each year. It commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. The day marks the anniversary of the announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union General Gordon Granger in Galveston, Texas, in 1865, which proclaimed freedom for enslaved people in Texas, the last holdout of slavery in the U.S.
